American Horror Story
There are very few shows in Hollywood Drama history that have managed to grope the likes of specific audiences in such a short time. American Horror Story serves the very purpose of proving itself to be one of the greatest shows ever among-st its fans. One of the many reasons why AHS is so convincing is because of the fact that it gives rise to a sort of cult culture with high regard given to sci-fi concepts flared against the backdrop of a horror setting. Everyone who loves AHS commends the show for its true potential. The plot in each of the seasons is more of a background to the different characters that take part in it and are put in the same scenario as the rest. With in-depth character study that unfolds events in the story, AHS fans dwell in a morbid curiosity of episodes that are based on gripping real life events.
AHS Season 1 and 2 were broad enough that almost anyone could enjoy them. From Season 3 onward, the show has been made with a sensibility that appeals to its most rigorous fans. Embedded in realistic and dark themes, the story hops around each character of the ensemble cast and for this very reason has a lot more in common with the Canterbury Tales than it does with the X-Files. Every single season in AHS introduces us to distinct female characters who strongly deviate from the normal female ideals and have a complex understanding of protecting themselves and each other from betrayal. These women are far from perfect, but certainly, donot go without a fight. AHS is also never just a show about witches, mutilated babies, mouths sewn and shut with thread as in the opening credits. It is a representative of societys worst fears, answering questions on race, gender, as well as socioeconomic issues etc. Matched with impressive one liners that never cease to add to the comedic element in the show, and an exceptional soundtrack that sends shivers down your spine, AHS is a brilliant show that is exactly the revelation American television needs.
